It has been reported in a recent news article that a woman died due to an error with a electronic prescription.
The woman was suffering from a urinary tract infection and due to an error received the wrong antibiotic to treat the infection. Due to the error the woman’s condition worsened and she ultimately died.
Everyday we are bombarded with news stories touting electronic prescriptions as the savior in combating prescription errors. In my opinion these errors will only increase because all of the efforts that these corporations are implementing don’t address the underlying cause of these errors.
Our experience and research has shown that these errors are directly correlated to putting profit above patient health and safety and a general indifference to make changes that affect the latter.
